Description

RadonAway GX3 Pro Series Radon Fan (28584)

Mid-pressure inline radon fan for moderate to tight soils, rated to 3.3" WC.

The RadonAway GX3 Pro Series sits between the RP series and the GX4. It is built for sub-slab conditions that are too tight for a high-airflow fan like the RP145 (rated to 1.7" WC), but do not need the full suction of a GX4 (4.8" WC). It moves 96 CFM at 1.0" of static pressure and still delivers 57 CFM at 2.5", drawing 60 to 135 watts.

Like every GX fan, the GX3 has an Eternalast™ polycarbonate housing that resists corrosion and colour fade, and Vapor Tite™ construction: the housing is induction welded into one piece to inhibit radon and soil gas leakage from the fan itself. It is ETL listed by Intertek to UL 507 and CSA C22.2, and rated for residential and commercial systems.

GX3 or GX4?

GX3 (28584) GX4 (28585)
Max recommended pressure 3.3" WC 4.8" WC
Airflow at 2.5" WC 57 CFM 84 CFM
Power 60 to 135 W 74 to 158 W
Hub size 3" 3"
Size 10.9" H x 11.9" dia. 11.9" H x 11.9" dia.

Both fans use the same 3" hub and the same couplings. The right fan for a building comes from a sub-slab pressure and flow test, not from the size of the house.

Installation notes

  • Mount vertically, plumb and level, with the outlet pointing up so condensation drains through the fan
  • Connect with flexible couplings so the fan can be serviced and vibration stays out of the framing
  • On 3" pipe, RadonAway recommends keeping airflow below 90 CFM so condensation can drain back down the pipe
  • Check system vacuum with a manometer. RadonAway pairs the GX3 with a 0 to 4.5" U-tube (50017)
  • Maximum operating pressure drops about 4% for every 1,000 ft of elevation. At 1,000 m (about 3,300 ft) the GX3's 3.3" becomes roughly 2.9"
  • Do not leave the fan installed on the piping without power for more than 48 hours
  • RadonAway designs the GX series for trained mitigation professionals. Wiring must be done by a qualified person to local electrical code

Common questions

What soil is the GX3 for?
RadonAway recommends GX fans for moderate to tight sub-slab conditions. Its RP fans are meant for slabs laid over about 4 inches of clean gravel. When the material under the slab is tighter than that, an RP fan cannot build enough suction and a GX fan is the next step.

What does the GX3 replace?
RadonAway's replacement guide lists the GX3 as a replacement for the AMG/Festa Eagle and the Festa Prowler.

Will it fit my 4" pipe?
Yes. The GX3 has a 3" hub, so it connects to 4" Schedule 40 PVC with a 4" x 3" flexible coupling on each side.

Is the GX3 loud?
RadonAway rates it for quiet operation when installed properly. In some systems you can hear air rushing out of the exhaust, and RadonAway recommends an exhaust muffler for that.

What is the warranty?
RadonAway covers the GX3 for 12 months from purchase, or 5 years when a C-NRPP certified professional installs it.
